GUIDANCE
If you are a
graduating senior who can qualify for the following
scholarships, please see Mrs. Shealer after PSSA
testing is finished for the day:
1. if
you live in East Penn Township, Parryville,
Bowmanstown or East Lower Towamensing Twp.
2.
if you attended Franklin Twp. Elementary
School
3.
if you are a Panther Valley student planning
to further your education
4.
if you live in Nesquehoning
5.
if you live in Franklin Twp.
6.
if you live in Mahoning Twp.
If you are
interested in competing for Carbon County Fair
Queen, you must be at least 16 years of age. This
contest is not a beauty pageant, it is an
educational contest to allow young women to
represent their county at various functions
throughout the coming year. See Mrs. Shealer for an
application after PSSA testing is completed for the
day.
Applications for
the Summer Youth Employment Program through Carbon
County Workforce Training are now available in the
guidance office. You must be at least 14 years old
to apply.
Attention current
sophomores – if you demonstrate leadership
qualities, you may be interested in attending a
summer camp sponsored by Leadership Carbon. The camp
will be June 14th to 18th and
is designed to inform the participant about
leadership opportunities in a volunteer role, public
office, boards or commissions. If you are interested
in more information, see Mrs. Shealer as soon as
possible. Only 5 applications will be accepted and
sent on for review and consideration.
Attention Seniors
– if you are interested in finding some financial
assistance, visit
www.scholarships.com.
Attention Juniors
– there will be a pre-apprenticeship program for the
construction trades offered next September at CCTI.
This program will prepare students to take and pass
the apprenticeship entrance examination. There will
be only 12 participants selected in Carbon County.
See Mr. Pondish in room 103A for more information.
Students: if you
have an interest in exploring careers in the
outdoors, you may be interested in attending a free,
week-long camp this summer. Sponsored by the
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources,
you must be in grades 10 through 12 and have at
least a ‘C’ average. See Mrs. Shealer for more
information.
Any student who is
currently in 10th, 11th, or 12th
grade is invited to apply for a six-day camp this
summer sponsored by the American Legion and
Pennsylvania State Police. At this camp you will be
introduced to all procedures of law enforcement. See
Mrs. Shealer for an application.
Thaddeus
Stevens College of Technology is sponsoring an OPEN
HOUSE on Saturday, March 27th. If
interested, register before March 19th.
If
you are a male in 11th grade and are
interested in attending a free, week-long summer
camp at Shippensburg University at which you will
practice the procedures and operations of the
various branches of city, county, and state
legislature, see Mrs. Shealer for more information.
If
you are a senior who lives in Nesquehoning and have
been accepted to a two year or four year college,
university or other school, see Mrs. Shealer for a
scholarship opportunity.
If you are interested in
entrepreneurial ideas and plans, register for the
Summer Entrepreneur Camp being offered by LCCC this
summer. Dates are July 12 to July 23 at the LCCC
Schnecksville Campus. See the posters throughout the
building.
If
you are a senior and planning to attend DeSales
University, please see Mrs. Shealer for a
scholarship opportunity.
Attention female seniors – the Lehigh Valley Section
of the Society of Women Engineers will be awarding
scholarships up to $5,000 each to a female who will
be enrolling in engineering at a college or
university after high school. See Mrs. Shealer for
an application.
Attention Seniors-If you are a past member of the
Safety Patrol Program at your home school, please
see Mrs. Shealer for information about a Triple A
East Penn $1,000 scholarship.
Just arrived – SAT
registration booklets. If you have access to a
computer, you can register on-line at
www.collegeboard.com.
Just a reminder –
all males are required to register with Selective
Service within 30 days
of their18th birthday. It is
the law! By doing this, he stays eligible for
programs and
benefits connected to registration,
such as college loans and grants, government jobs,
and job training. This can be done on-line at
www.sss.gov.
